IKOS' VStation-5M Purchased by Transmeta for Processor and Chipset Verification
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 14, 2001--IKOS Systems,
Inc. (Nasdaq:IKOS), a leading provider of high-performance design
verification solutions, today announced that it has received a sales
order from Transmeta (Santa Clara, Calif.) for their VStation-5M
emulation and co-modeling system. The sale was in excess of $1
million. Transmeta will use VStation for early verification of
hardware and software components with the overall system in the
development of processors and chipsets targeted towards Internet
appliance and laptop processor applications.
Godfrey D'Souza, director of VLSI design for Transmeta, noted,
``Certainly, VStation's co-modeling capability was the critical
advantage for us in selecting IKOS' technology. In an era where there
are a number of diverging emulation solutions, we were looking for a
more fully integrated verification environment that would give us a
significant edge in meeting our milestones. For Transmeta, that edge
is the ability to move the hardware/software co-design and
verification up into an earlier phase of the design flow. We could not
accomplish this with any other emulation product.''
Ramon Nunez, president and CEO for IKOS Systems, stated,
``Transmeta's need to have software integration earlier in its design
flow speaks specifically to the unique co-modeling capability offered
in our VStation-5M. The targeted market applications of Internet
appliances and laptop processors mandates that the processors and
chipsets developed for those applications work right the first time.
There is no margin of error in terms of not having the software and
hardware work correctly in the final system implementation or having
to re-spin the chip if it does not work right on the first pass.
``Transmeta's use of VStation-5M fits in exactly with our overall
long-term market goals and strategies,'' continued Nunez. ``With
VStation-5M we can address the broadest range of emulation needs
through co-modeling, in-circuit emulation or a combination of both.
Through this wide applicability, we believe that we will be poised to
uniquely address the critical verification demands of some of the most
rapidly growing target market segments in the areas of computing and
communications.''
Transmeta will utilize IKOS' VStation-5M in the development of
processors and chipsets ranging in size from 3-5 million gates. The
processors are targeted towards Internet appliance and laptop end
products.
Transmeta's premier product is the Crusoe processor, a low power
x86-compatible family of solutions specially designed for the New
World of Mobile Internet Computing. Its proprietary Code Morphing
technology is used to significantly reduce the processor's power
consumption without sacrificing performance. Advanced power management
techniques maximize battery life by dynamically matching performance
levels to application demand. All Crusoe processors are fully x86
compatible, PC compatible, and Internet compatible.
